The Biggest Challenge Facing New Start-Ups

This may come as a surprise to some of you but …

The biggest challenge facing new start-ups, online and offline, is impractical dreams.

I should know: I’ve suffered from this illness for far too long.

People have dreams which are totally impractical.

They are constantly saying,

I’d like to do this and I’d like to do that, and I’d like to do the other, but wishing doesn’t make it so,” — Drayton Bird.

You’ve got to think about things practically. You’ve got to think of practical ways, whether your dream actually is practical. That’s the biggest problem.

Again, as Drayton says,

Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

That way, if things don’t go as you’d like, you won’t be disappointed.

Reach for the stars. You may not get one, but you won’t come up with a hand full of mud, either. — Leo Burnett

This last one seems to contradict everything I’ve said, but what it means is …

… don’t aim low. Be realistic about your abilities; what you can and can’t do, and do your best in those areas.

There you have it. A lot of tips about practicality in a very brief article.

Whatever it is you want to achieve, make sure it’s realistic. Make sure it’s something you can actually do.

And then do it.

Best,
Adam
